Jazz Improv Institute
The goal of the Jazz Improv Institute is to empower educators to improvise with efficacy.
Based out of Washington, DC
Created by Shannon Gunn, the Jazz Improv Institute is a blog and educational platform designed to help everyone - including music educators - improve their jazz improvisation skills.
Jazz is a language. Bebop, the roots of modern jazz, has grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, just like any language. How do you learn a language? Listen first, then imitate, then create. This website combines years of practice, performance, learning theory, and sound fundamental pedagogy/andragogy to empower learners of all ages to improve their understanding and performance of jazz, improvisation, bebop, and beyond.
Check out Shannon Gunn’s clinic, “3 Steps to Improv: Bebop and Beyond” for more information. Use the contact form on this website if you’d like to book Shannon for a clinic, or if you have any issues with the website. Thanks for stopping by, and we hope to see you in person some day!
