Chords Warm Up

I use this warm up with the full band to teach chord theory. The percussionists will switch up feels every 12 measures while the horns play the arpeggios. It is designed to teach theory because each set of 12 chords changes one note at a time - major sevenths, then dominant sevenths, then minor sevenths, then minor 7 flat 5, then diminished 7ths. This is like an encyclopedia of jazz chords, and if you give it to your students, they will run with it. For guitars and piano, I will have them choose between playing arpeggios or comping, whatever they prefer to work on. This is a great warm up for guitar because it has them learning the shape in all 12 keys.
